Acupuncture for Hypothyroid Diabetes

Thyroid disease and diabetes are two separate conditions, but they often go hand-in-hand. Acupuncture for hypothyroid diabetes is a viable alternative approach to therapy.

Hypothyroidism simply means the thyroid glad isn't working properly.

Since its main purpose is to run the body's metabolism, if the gland isn't doing its work you'll have difficulty losing weight. In North America, the most common form of hypothyroidism is called Hashimoto's Thyroiditis, or Hashimoto's Disease (named after the Japanese doctor who first identified the condition.) Hashimoto's Disease is an autoimmune condition in which the immune system creates antibodies that attack the thyroid gland, gradually destroying its function.

Whatever treatment is determined for this condition, it is probably long term and perhaps even lifelong.

This condition is more common among women, and particularly diabetics. Hence the term hypothyroid diabetes. A hypothyroid condition will often cause the complications of diabetes to appear earlier.

In choosing a treatment for the hypothyroidism part, it's essential that it doesn't interfere with your diabetes treatment. This is definitely a condition to be carefully discussed with your specialist before deciding on a treatment regimen.

While there are traditional drug therapies for this condition, one of the most common alternative methods is acupuncture for hypothyroid diabetes.

Acupuncture for hypothyroid diabetes involves placing acupuncture needles in the points related to blood sugar, insulin and metabolism levels. As in other acupuncture treatments, this treatment manipulates the body's energy flow and removes blockages. This is supposed to free up the body's energy reserves and use them for healing the body's tissues and systems.

Besides the healing effects, acupuncture for hypothyroid diabetes apparently provides immediate feelings of calm as well as pain relief. It appears that many traditional medical doctors don't mind their patients having this type of treatment alongside western drug therapy, and don't find acupuncture for hypothyroid diabetes to interfere in any way with traditional treatment.

To be sure you are following the best treatment regimen, talk to both your traditional doctor and a qualified acupuncturist about acupuncture for hypothyroid diabetes.
